How Can Data SIMs Be Useful To Your Company?

While they are something of a mystery when it comes to functionality, it’s possible to find ways to utilise these inventions for more than internet roaming. When someone mentions SIM cards, it is automatically assumed that it is in order to use the internet or make telephone calls when you are not able to use your normal mobile phone which has an allowance of minutes and text messages allocated to it.

The basic principle of the SIM card can be applied to a host of different uses, most commonly to transfer data of any description from one place to another. For example, when energy supply companies find themselves with customers who are not keeping up with their payments, they transfer their supply of gas, electricity or both onto a prepayment scheme. This used to mean slotting £1 coins into a machine tucked away in a cupboard somewhere but now the customer is supplied with a card which they can load with money and then insert into the machine. A very efficient way to budget if companies did not insist on charging so much for the energy this way!

A very similar system can be used by companies who wish to keep track of their vehicles. While this sounds very complicated and initially expensive, companies can obtain tablet devices that load the data SIMs and are then used to transfer data between the travelling employee and the headquarters.

The idea is to be able to easily share data with a main base, whether that is the location of the vehicle or any other information that may be useful for reviewing the efficiency of the service offered by the company.

The most useful aspect of this is the GPS system that can be enlisted. This should allow for a company to look at how far a vehicle can travel in a certain amount of time, meaning they can look at the efficiency of the journey and whether a different route should be taken or area allocated for that specific employee.

Transferring data in this way means that although the company may have to stomach a large upfront cost, the overall benefits that the company should feel from being able to monitor their employees on a more accurate basis should far outweigh these initial costs.

When working in a customer service department which operates remotely, the response times of the telephone calls are the first aspect customers notice. If a customer is kept on hold for a long period of time it’s the first thing they’re going to notice about the company. While it may demonstrate that the company is busy, it also suggests that the company cannot handle the influx of calls they are receiving. Read More
